Position: Military Language Instructor (MLI) - Pashto, Dari, Urdu
Location(s): Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC), Monterey, CA
Job Description:
- Deliver all levels of specialized foreign language instruction (including grammar, vocabulary and military-related skills) to military students.
- Develop visual aids, tests and criteria for evaluating effectiveness of training activities.
- Evaluate student strengths and weaknesses, advise leadership of their potential as a linguist, and counsel and mentor students on both academic and disciplinary issues.
- Design and develop instructional approaches and/or strategies to meet training requirements.
- Conduct analysis of training requirements and media requirements.
- Develop appropriate training objectives and test methods and design instructionally valid training materials.
- Ensure integrity of task analysis, training requirements, training hierarchies, instructional materials, and evaluation plans.
- Design and develop computer based training, web-based training, electronic performance support systems and other technology-based learning solutions.
- Develop flow diagrams and story boards.
- Design instructionally sound lessons in a variety of delivery media.
- Interact with customer and subject matter experts to ensure technical accuracy of instructional content.
- Provide guidance and work leadership to less-experienced personnel.
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned (SMARTboard, etc.).
Required Education: Associate of Arts Degree required; Bachelors Degree and/or Masters Degree preferred.
Required Experience:
- Honorably discharged military, military reserve, or National Guard Foreign Language Linguist.
- 5-8 years of military operational language experience.
- Familiar with and effectively utilize latest classroom technology.
- Interagency Language Round Table (ILR) level 2+/2+/2 in Target Language with current DLPT scores and an advanced working proficiency in English.
- Graduate of DLIFLC.
- Successful completion of the DLIFLC Instructor Certification Course (ICC) or Instructor Recertification Course (IRC), NSA Adjunct Faculty Certification, or a military service instructor course preferred.
Citizenship: US Citizenship / US Permanent Residency required based upon position.
